Catalan Flag in the Streets of Barcelona

I’m currently in Barcelona for the first time ever – and it’s such a spectacularly beautiful city. I think most people have at least heard that Barcelona and Catalonia perceive themselves as different to the rest of Spain (different language, flag, traditions, history etc. etc.), but it wasn’t until I embarked on one of those infamous free city tours that I really understood the significance behind it. Barcelona is littered with Catalonian flags hanging from the thousands of beautiful little windows in age old buildings, many of which, unlike this one, are pro-independence. Whether it’s pro-independence or not, the flags are gorgeous to see in the seemingly everlasting sunshine of Barcelona.
